FRC Ordinance

The Hartford Fair Rent Commission is composed of five members, including tenants and landlords, appointed by the mayor to investigate complaints about excessive rental charges on housing accommodations. The commission has the authority to conduct hearings, issue subpoenas, set rent limits, and suspend rent payments if housing violates health and safety codes. Appeals can be made to the superior court, and violators of the commission's orders face fines ranging from $25 to $100 per offense, with additional penalties for continued violations.

Editor's note— Ord. No. 15-19, adopted Oct. 28, 2019, enacted provisions designated as Div. 20, §§ 2-330.90—2-330.99. Inasmuch as the division so numbered and § 2-330.90 already exist, said provisions have been redesignated as Div. 21, §§ 2-330.91—2-330.100, at the discretion of the editor.
