The City of Bristol, Connecticut, has established a Fair Rent Commission to address tenant and landlord disputes concerning rental rates and housing conditions. The Commission is authorized to determine if a rent charge is excessive and may order reductions to fair and equitable amounts. It can also suspend or reduce rent payments if a housing accommodation fails to meet health and safety standards. The Commission handles complaints, encourages informal resolutions, and enforces its orders. Landlords are prohibited from retaliating against tenants who file complaints. Decisions can be appealed to the Superior Court within 30 days.
FRC meeting agendas and some minutes (with decisions) available from Oct. 2022 to present on town website.
