Fair Rent Commissions

FRC Info

Danbury's Fair Rent Commission is made up of nine appointed members and two alternates, though two commissioner seats are currently vacant.

FRC Ordinance

The City of Danbury, Connecticut, has established a Fair Rent Commission to address tenant and landlord disputes concerning rental rates and housing conditions. The Commission is authorized to determine if a rent charge is excessive and may order reductions to fair and equitable amounts. It can also suspend or reduce rent payments if a housing accommodation fails to meet health and safety standards. The Commission handles complaints, encourages informal resolutions, and enforces its orders. Landlords are prohibited from retaliating against tenants who file complaints. Decisions can be appealed to the Superior Court within 30 days.

FRC Decisions

There are no references to the Fair Rent Commission (FRC) in the town meeting minutes. However, there was a meeting agenda in the calendar, which indicates that the Commission does have cases, though only a few.
